First Orange Trees in Riverside CA

Eliza Tibbets the mother who cared for the first orange trees in California. Riverside CA is famous for the orange industry in California, in the 1870 citrus farms expanded as Brazilian orange trees were cultivated and grew abundantly in the wonderful warm weather that southern California is so well know for. It all started when Eliza Tibbets was sent 3 Brazilian navel orange trees from a horticulturist friend named William Saunders who said the trees were originally from Bahia, Brazil.
